Volume 18, Issue 7, July 2023

Why is it that there are never enough days in the month of July? Suddenly, after saying all year, "Look forward to seeing you in the summer," you realize that summer is really only 60 days long and you have dozens of events and happenings already on your calendar! Visiting with all those special friends is getting difficult. But never mind, soon we’ll be writing September, October, etc., so as that wonderful expression goes . . . take time to stop and smell the roses . . .

Speaking of events, there are such wonderful events this summer! Here are some posters our Events Magician, Dan Mathis, has created.

Learning to Draw Class, Summer 2023

A group of artists met this summer on LaVignette Island, Admiralty Group. This gathering was an extension of the Learning to Draw class held at the Gananoque Arts Network, sponsored by the Gananoque Seniors Association, and taught by Karen Leslie Hall. Plans are underway to run another session of the course in the fall. Here are just two drawings from one day of drawing:

The Gananoque Reporter's article by Julie McKay, helped to celebrate the Ontario Nature Public Service Award, given this year to recognize Douglas and Blu Mackintosh's enormous contributions to the Province of Ontario. I say enormous, as I can truly attest to the many contributions this couple have given to promote conservation and protect the Canadian Thousand Islands over decades.  Bravo you two!

A New Collaboration

Looking for a new Island coffee table book? We found it - published this summer by Gananoque's Poet Laureate, Gretchen Huntley and Photographer, Deb Keogh. The books will be hard cover 8x5 and will sell for $29.99.   All profits will be donated to Lions and Rotary Clubs of Gananoque.

We Still Need Help!

When was the last time you explored our TI Life Pages? We need help to update: The Place, Communities, and if you go on a special Excursion this summer and you think others would enjoy the same journey – let us know. We will be happy to add it to the site. In fact, we have one coming next month, from Kathy Hurst and her trip to France.

Header photograph July 2023: Header photograph by Jim Montanus. Jim asks, "What's lurking underneath your dock? Just for the heck of it, I took my GoPro under an old dock . . . I was surprised to see dozens of fish under it - bluegills, pumpkinseed sunfish, rock bass, and a couple of large mouth bass. It was  like swimming in an aquarium.
