Upcoming in June at The Clayton Opera House

The Karla Bonoff - Singer/Songwriter: June 20

Southern California native Karla Bonoff was a songwriter by the age of 15, becoming friends with other singer-songwriters and musicians in the 1960s, creating their own unique sounds and lining up at the legendary Troubadour. From the Monday night Troubadour "hoot," artists such as Ms. Bonoff went on to great success. She has toured with Bonnie Raitt, John Prine, J.D. Souther, Livingston Taylor and others. In 1990, she wrote three songs for Linda Ronstadt's album "Cry Like a Rainstorm, Howl Like the Wind." "All My Life," a duet with Ms. Ronstadt and Aaron Neville, won the Grammy for Best Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group. Billboard Magazine has written of Ms. Bonoff: "Long before Alanis and Jewel, there was a breed of singer/songwriters whose earthly anthems of soul-searching, heartache and joy touched souls in a way few can muster today."

Clayton Community Band - June 25

Our band is made up of members that come from all over the North Country. Although many live in Clayton, Watertown or surrounding communities in Jefferson County, some of our musicians travel from St. Lawrence and Lewis Counties. We have a few members from even farther away who spend summers in the Clayton area and we welcome them back to play with us each summer season. We also come from many different walks of life. Some of our performers are life-long musicians either as performers or educators in local schools, some are professionals in other areas, and some have retired from their careers and are just looking for a fun and relaxing way to get involved in the community. Despite our differences we all come together each week to rehearse the music that we love sharing with our dedicated audiences. All members are listed in the programs for each of our concerts.

The philosophy of the Clayton Community Band is to afford any dedicated individual, who previously or currently plays a band instrument, an outlet to perform in rehearsal and public performance.

Preparation and presentation of concert band music is geared toward continuous education and enjoyment by the performers, while entertaining and educating the residents and guests of Clayton and surrounding communities through diversified programs of band literature. Working as a team to interpret and convey to an audience any select or particular selection of band music develops a serene sense of camaraderie. Great friendships are born through music, whether by working together as a team or by enjoying a live performance of musicians of various ages with diversified backgrounds performing for the love of music.

For the performers and audience, we feel that music heals the heart and soothes the soul.

Tapestry, The Carole King Songbook with Suzanne O'Davis: June 27

Suzanne and her world class band will be presenting the complete Tapestry album, along with many 1960’s hits from the Broadway smash musical ‘Beautiful’. This includes songs recorded by the Beatles, Aretha Franklin, James Taylor, The Shirelles, the Monkees – and the list goes on. We guarantee you’ll be singing along with all these great tunes.

Suzanne has an uncanny likeness to Carole, with her energy, audience interaction, and piano playing effortlessly matching the vibe of Carole King in concert. Her friendly and comedic presence on stage immediately endears her to audiences with ease and warmth. Along with the huge catalogue of hits, Suzanne also brings stories about the songs and the history of Carole’s incredible career.
