The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville has announced a free workshop for non-profit groups to learn about how to create an affordable housing project. The upcoming Affordable Housing 101 Workshop is taking place on Wednesday October 25th, 2023 at the Brockville Memorial Civic Center from 1 pm to 5 pm. The workshop is being presented by Cahdco, a nonprofit real estate developer that has been serving the Ottawa area for thirty years.
The workshop covers the basic information that a non-profit will need to know to create affordable housing in Canada, including the different types of affordable housing (mixed, supportive, etc.), types of development (new construction, acquisition, redevelopment), three core elements (land, capital and capacity) to a project, the project team, development stages and the financial basics to make your project viable. Throughout the presentation case study examples of recently completed affordable housing projects are used to demonstrate concepts.
The second part of the workshop involves a role-playing game, Go-No-Go, which emulates the early stages of an affordable housing development project and the development process. Does your project work? Is it feasible? Can you make your Go-No-Go (GoNoGo) decision? Develop a project concept and a feasibility study for an affordable housing development project. Simulate applying for the project’s main funding source and receive the grant to win the game!
This workshop is appropriate for non-profit groups, market developers, municipal staff and officials who are interested in learning about how to move forward on developing an affordable housing project.
Registration for this workshop is limited; please register in advance by contacting the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville at (613) 342-3840 ext. 2122 or 1-800-267-8146 ext. 2122. at the Brockville Memorial Civic Center from 1pm to 5pm.
