The River Whispers

She currently lives in the Poconos near her daughter and granddaughter, but she still has family and friends in the North Country. The River Whispers
No matter how long between visits
or what season it happens to be,
the closer north, the more I travel
I feel the St. Lawrence call to me.
Time starts to slow down, unwind -
I seek not only friends and family, but a sense of belonging,
it’s etched upon my memory.
There’s a bridge connecting the lands,
and a lighthouse that beckons to all,
a castle of dreams to visit,
you can fish, hear the wild birds call...
Drive out to the island or Canada,
or walk along the riverbanks,
catch a drive-in movie in the summer,
or watch a sunset and give thanks...
Coffee’s always waiting at the diner.
There’s a thousand reasons not to leave,
the stars are brighter and you see more there
in the northern night sky, I believe.
A place that changes, yet, stays the same -
and no matter where else I roam,
it gets harder to leave with each visit,
the River whispers, “come
home”...
